Constable Randy Campbell has been offered $1 million bail in a case involving the fatal shooting of one man and the injury of another during a dispute in April 2025.
The 37-year-old appeared before the St James Parish Circuit Court on Wednesday on murder and shooting charges.
The allegations stem from an incident on April 29, 2025, when Campbell intervened in a dispute between his sister and her neighbour over water flowing between their adjoining properties.
According to the prosecution, a man identified only as Kayon confronted Campbell during the argument. A friend later joined Kayon and attempted to photograph the licence plate of Campbell’s nearby car.
The prosecution alleges that Campbell became angry, drew his firearm and shot Kayon before shooting the other man. Kayon later died from his injuries.
However, the court heard that Campbell provided a written statement shortly after the incident in which he claimed the two men had attacked him.
The court was also told that the incident took place inside his sister’s yard.
Campbell, who is represented by King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie, was granted bail with strict reporting conditions.
He is scheduled to return to the Circuit Court on April 29, 2027.
