Kingston, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has moved to shut down swirling social media claims about missing and uncounted ballot boxes following last week’s general election.
In a statement, the EOJ confirmed that all 7,294 general election ballot boxes have been fully accounted for, along with the 109 boxes used in local government by-elections.
The EOJ explained that the preliminary count on election night was carried out in the presence of indoor agents representing at least two candidates or political parties, and in some cases, international and local election observers.
It further noted that ballot boxes were escorted by police and accompanied by party agents to the counting centres, ensuring transparency at every stage.
The EOJ has urged candidates and supporters to ignore misinformation and reminded those with grievances that they must pursue complaints through the legal channels of recourse provided under the law.
