A wanted man was reportedly shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with members of the security forces in Spanish Town, St Catherine, last night.
The man has been identified as 22-year-old Anthony “Pops” Williams, also known as “Intra Tech”, who was previously listed as wanted by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for escaping custody.
Williams gained national attention after making a dramatic escape from the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston.
Reports are that he vaulted from the prisoner’s dock into the area occupied by the judge before running onto a private walkway used by judges and members of their security detail.
He then reportedly jumped from a second-floor corridor onto Tower Street and escaped.
At the time of his escape, Williams was awaiting sentencing for illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law. He was later sentenced in absentia to 18 years in prison.
The circumstances surrounding last night’s reported confrontation remain unclear.
Investigations are ongoing.
