Three Killed in Alleged Police Shoot-out in Westmoreland; AK-47 Recovered

Three people were killed during an alleged confrontation with members of the Westmoreland Proactive Investigation Unit in Bog District, Bluefields, on Tuesday evening.

The deceased have been identified as 48-year-old farmer Kenroy Russell, otherwise called “Chris,” 45-year-old Carlene Henry, otherwise called “Muchette,” and a man known only as “Chicken.”

According to the police, officers were conducting surveillance in the area when the occupants of a Toyota Axio allegedly exited the vehicle and opened fire on them. The officers reportedly returned fire, and the three individuals were later found suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Police said an AK-47 rifle loaded with six rounds of 7.62 ammunition was recovered at the scene.

Investigators also reported that a fourth man, who allegedly fired at the police during the incident, escaped and remains at large.

The scene was processed by the Area One Technical Services Division and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). Several spent shells, a bullet fragment, and blood samples were collected, while the firearms issued to the involved officers have been seized for ballistic testing as investigations continue.
