72-Year-Old St. James Man Charged with Arson Following House Fire in Pitfour

St. James, Jamaica — A 72-year-old retiree, Junior Malcolm, has been charged with arson after allegedly setting a house on fire in the Hill View community of Pitfour.

Reports from the Granville Police indicate that around 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, residents witnessed Malcolm setting fire to a two-storey house. Emergency responders, including the Jamaica Fire Brigade, were called to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.

The fire caused significant damage to the second floor of the house, with losses estimated at approximately $10 million.

Malcolm was arrested at the scene later that day, after being identified by witnesses, and was taken into police custody. He was formally charged on Wednesday, October 15, following an interview in the presence of his lawyer.

His court date is currently being finalised as investigations continue.
