Kingston, Jamaica — A 24-year-old British man, Isun Shaka Haywood, has pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and been fined $800,000 after authorities found cocaine in his suitcase at Norman Manley International Airport in August 2025.
Haywood, a delivery driver from London, was initially charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, taking steps preparatory to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine. In the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court today, he was fined $800,000 for possession and $14,000 for taking steps preparatory to export cocaine. The charges of dealing in cocaine and conspiracy to export cocaine were dismissed.
His attorney, Odane Marston, told the court that Haywood has learned his lesson and is remorseful. He also noted that Haywood has been in custody for some time and has no connections to Jamaica, requesting that the court impose fines rather than imprisonment.
Court documents show that on Monday, August 4, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Haywood arrived at Norman Manley Airport intending to board a flight to Toronto, Canada. During an interview with the police, his suitcase was searched, revealing several rectangular packages containing a white powdery substance resembling cocaine.
The parcels weighed 10 pounds 6.21 ounces and were sent to the government forensic lab, where tests confirmed the substance was cocaine. Following a question-and-answer session with police, Haywood was formally charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Court proceedings concluded with fines imposed, bringing closure to the case.
