End of the Road for Career Criminal ‘Rifle Man’

Montego Bay, St. JamesDel-Llareu Duncan, otherwise known as ‘Rifle Man,’ a career criminal with a long history of violent crimes, was shot and killed by police on Thursday, bringing an end to his reign of terror in St. James.

Duncan, 30, had built a reputation as one of the most dangerous figures in the parish, topping the police’s most wanted list due to his involvement in multiple murders and orchestrated attacks. His criminal activities spanned years, leaving a trail of violence that plagued communities across Montego Bay.

A Life of Crime

Duncan was no stranger to law enforcement. At the time of his death, he was out on bail for the January 2022 murder of Chevaine Stephens, also known as ‘Alex,’ in Ocean Heights, St. James. That attack also left three others injured.

But his criminal record stretched far beyond that case. Investigators had linked him to at least four more murders between August 23 and October 5, 2024. Despite being arrested on October 5, Duncan’s influence in the underworld didn’t wane. Police intelligence suggests he continued to run operations from behind bars, including ordering the October 8, 2024, murder of a 46-year-old merchandiser.

Final Showdown with Police

Duncan was one of three suspects involved in an attempted robbery at Feng Supermarket on Church Street, Montego Bay, on Tuesday. His accomplices met their fate on Wednesday—one was shot dead in the Salt Springs community around 4:00 PM, while another was gunned down an hour later on Albion Lane. Firearms were recovered at both scenes.

On Thursday, Duncan’s criminal career came to an abrupt end when he was fatally shot in a confrontation with police.

For years, ‘Rifle Man’ evaded justice, leaving a legacy of violence and fear in his wake. But with his death, law enforcement officials say a major threat to public safety has been eliminated. The police continue their investigations, determined to dismantle the criminal networks that Duncan once thrived in.
