Police have seized more than 1,900 pounds of ganja valued at $5.7 million during a late-night operation in Dumfries, St Thomas, on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Reports are that about 11:00 p.m., personnel from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) swooped down on a beach in Dumfries, where they observed two men with several knitted bags.
The men were accosted and searched, and the bags were found to contain compressed ganja. Police also seized a boat fitted with two 75HP engines during the operation.
Suspects Arrested
The two men were taken into custody, but police have not yet released their identities.
Police Statement
Acting Director of the FNID, Superintendent Oral Henry, said the bust has cut off a major financial stream for gangs:
“The proceeds from these drugs are often used to purchase illegal firearms, which are then trafficked into Jamaica. By disrupting this operation, we have not only prevented a significant amount of drugs from reaching their destination but have also cut off a key financial pipeline for criminal gangs. Our sustained efforts, with the help of our partners, are crucial in intercepting criminal activities.”
The men are expected to face drug trafficking charges following further investigations.
