St. James, Jamaica – Murder, Robbery with Aggravation, Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon charges have been laid against 29-year-old Christopher Hunt, otherwise known as ‘Alkaline, of Katon Lane, Mount Salem, St. James.
The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Garry Hamilton, a security officer of Albion Road, Montego Bay, on Monday, June 16 along Barnett Street in the parish.
According to police reports, at approximately 5:54 p.m., Hamilton was standing outside a business establishment when Hunt approached and attempted to force him inside. When the attempt failed, Hunt allegedly opened gunfire, shooting Hamilton multiple times before robbing the business and fleeing the scene.
The police were alerted and responded promptly. Hamilton was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following a swift investigation that included CCTV footage analysis, Hunt was apprehended in St. Catherine on Tuesday, June 17 — just a day after the murder. After reportedly confessing to the crimes during a question-and-answer session, Hunt was formally charged on Wednesday, June 25.
A court date is currently being arranged.
Investigations are ongoing
