St Catherine, Jamaica — A Chinese national tragically lost his life on Sunday morning when his vehicle plunged into the sea while he reportedly attempted a U-turn on the Old Causeway Bridge, which connects Portmore to Kingston.
The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Jing Wang Wang of a Kingston 10 address.
According to Sergeant Canute Naire of the Marine Police Division, Wang was part of a group that had gone to the location for a fishing trip. However, as rain began to fall, he got into his vehicle and attempted to turn around on the bridge.
During the manoeuvre, the vehicle reportedly went over the edge and into the water below.
Emergency responders were alerted, and a search operation was launched. Wang’s body was recovered several hours later, and the vehicle was subsequently removed from the water.
Distraught family members, visibly shaken and grief-stricken, were seen at the scene, along with some of Wang’s employees who had gathered to pay their respects.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident.
