ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A man described by police as wanted in connection with murder and other crimes was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with law enforcement officers in Spanish Town on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Theo Williams, otherwise called “Intra-Tech”, of a Kingston 20 address.
According to police reports, about 9:30 p.m. on September 24, officers received information that an armed man was at a shopping complex along Old Harbour Road in St Catherine.
A police team responded and approached the location, where Williams was reportedly seen leaving a store.
Police allege that after the officers identified themselves, Williams pointed a firearm in their direction. The officers reportedly took evasive action and opened fire, hitting him.
A Beretta pistol was subsequently recovered at the scene, according to police.
Williams was taken to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police sources said Williams had been wanted in connection with murder and other crimes in the Corporate Area.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
