ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Police have launched an investigation after a 69-year-old tyre shop attendant was shot and injured during a confrontation involving a security guard along Molynes Road on Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that about 9:30 a.m., the security guard became involved in a tussle with another man and was reportedly attacked and stabbed.
During the confrontation, the guard’s firearm was discharged, and the 69-year-old man, who was nearby at the time, was struck by a bullet.
The injured man was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
The security guard is now being investigated in relation to the discharge of a firearm causing injury.
Detectives from the Half-Way Tree Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
