Amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East, the United States Department of State is advising American nationals residing in parts of the region to make arrangements to depart as soon as possible.
The advisory applies to individuals living in Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The guidance follows last Saturday’s military action carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, and subsequent retaliatory measures by the Islamic Republic.
Several countries across the region — including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait — reported intercepting missiles launched in their direction. These nations host US military installations.
US President Donald Trump indicated that further military action may be imminent, describing an anticipated escalation as a “big wave” of strikes. In comments published by the New York Post, he suggested the conflict could continue for up to four weeks and noted that US forces were operating slightly ahead of schedule. The president also stated that the option of deploying American troops into Iran has not been completely ruled out.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, has urged Jamaicans in the Middle East to remain alert and follow safety instructions, including sheltering in place if necessary. She affirmed that the Jamaican government remains available to assist nationals facing emergencies in the affected areas.
