Sean “Diddy” Combs, the embattled hip-hop mogul, has issued a heartfelt plea to the court ahead of his looming sentencing, telling the judge that he has gone through a spiritual rebirth and deserves another chance.
In a four-page letter sent to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, Diddy said he has turned away from his past lifestyle, gotten sober, and is working to rebuild himself. The once powerful music executive wrote that he has been “humbled” by his downfall and asked that the court show compassion instead of using his punishment as an example.
Diddy, 55, publicly apologized again to his former partner Cassie Ventura, referencing the 2016 assault caught on camera, and also extended apologies to another woman, identified as “Jane.” He admitted that his actions have left scars, saying he has “reflected deeply” and intends to dedicate the rest of his life to becoming a better man.
Prosecutors, however, are calling for a heavy sentence, recommending at least 11 years in prison after his July conviction on two counts tied to transporting women for prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
His legal team is fighting back, insisting that Diddy has already served over a year in custody and should not face more than 14 months in total. They say the star wants to personally address the court at the sentencing, scheduled in the coming days.
Once a billionaire mogul, Diddy now stands before the judge stripped of his empire, his reputation in tatters, and his freedom hanging in the balance.
