Pennsylvania, USA (McKoy’s News) – A Pennsylvania man who firebombed the Governor’s mansion while Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were inside has pleaded guilty to a range of serious charges, including attempted murder, arson, and terrorism.
The accused, 38-year-old Cody Balmer, appeared in court this week and admitted to the shocking attack that took place on the night of April 13, 2025 — a night that could easily have ended in tragedy.
Reports are that the incident happened during the Passover holiday, shortly after Governor Shapiro’s family and guests had wrapped up a Seder dinner inside the official residence in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
According to prosecutors, Balmer was caught on security footage climbing the fence surrounding the mansion, smashing windows, and hurling Molotov cocktails into parts of the building.
At least 22 people, including the governor, his wife, their children, and several state troopers, were inside the residence at the time of the firebomb attack, but miraculously no one was injured.
Investigators later revealed that Balmer had also carried a sledgehammer and intended to assault the governor if he had encountered him inside.
During Tuesday’s court hearing, Balmer entered guilty pleas to attempted murder, aggravated arson, burglary, and terrorism charges. Under the terms of his plea deal, he was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison, with the possibility of parole beginning in 2050.
Governor Shapiro later thanked law enforcement and emergency teams for their quick action, describing the ordeal as a “night of terror narrowly avoided.”
The attack sent shockwaves through the U.S. political community, prompting renewed discussions about security for public officials and their families.
