Two were fatally shot following a reported confrontation with members of the security forces along Brighton Main Road in Westmoreland on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Dane Buchanan, otherwise known as “Bubbla,” and Suwayne Lindo, otherwise known as “Coolie.”
According to reports, at approximately 3:07 p.m., police were conducting an operation in the Brighton area when they observed a white Toyota Voxy travelling in the opposite direction.
The police reportedly activated their flashing lights and signalled the vehicle to stop. It is alleged that the occupants disobeyed the signal and that a passenger opened gunfire at the police team.
The police reportedly returned fire, during which Buchanan and Lindo were fatally shot.
One Taurus Nano 9mm pistol with a magazine affixed was reportedly seized during the incident.
Buchanan was reportedly on bail in connection with a July 2020 shooting at a bar in the Little London area of Westmoreland, during which five people were shot.
Lindo was reportedly on bail in connection with a murder case stemming from an April 2023 incident in which a bike taxi operator was shot and killed.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain subject to investigation.
