CLARENDON, Jamaica — Police took two men into custody after finding 15 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bottle during an early-morning joint operation in Comfort district on Tuesday.
According to the police, the operation was conducted about 6:00 am. Five rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition were discovered along the fence line of a property in the community.
The men remain in custody in connection with the seizure as investigations continue.
Acting Senior Superintendent Anton-Gur Cardoza, commanding officer for the Clarendon Police, said the discovery reflects ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activity and reduce serious and violent crimes.
He said the division’s intelligence-driven operations focus on recovering illegal firearms and ammunition and preventing their use in acts of violence.
Cardoza added that police would intensify targeted operations and maintain a strong presence across the parish.
The seizure follows a reported reduction in major crimes in Clarendon. During this month’s sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, police reported a 19 per cent decline.
