A three-year-old child has died following a gun attack in Denham Town, West Kingston, on Saturday morning, prompting a major police investigation and strong condemnation from area Member of Parliament Desmond McKenzie..
The shooting occurred at 119 Nelson Street, Kingston 14, where three individuals were struck by gunfire. The toddler later succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack. An eight-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man were also injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.
In a statement issued on Saturday, McKenzie denounced the incident, describing it as a brutal act of violence. He extended condolences to the family of the deceased child and expressed hope for the recovery of the other victims.
The West Kingston representative is appealing to residents with information to assist investigators. He stressed the need for community cooperation to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought before the courts.
McKenzie also announced a $600,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest and charge of the individual or individuals behind the shooting.
Law enforcement authorities have launched a high-level probe into the incident. The Member of Parliament further indicated that arrangements will be made to provide grief counselling for the family of the slain child.
