ST MARY, Jamaica — Police in St Mary have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of 57-year-old bar operator Marlene McCalla, otherwise called “Mammy,” in Dover, St Mary, on Monday night.
According to police reports, McCalla was inside her business place at about 7:00 p.m. when she was approached by a man posing as a customer.
The man reportedly opened fire, shooting McCalla multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Residents, who heard the explosions, alerted the police. When lawmen arrived, McCalla was reportedly found suffering from several gunshot wounds.
She was taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Residents said the tragedy has struck the family before, as McCalla’s brother was reportedly killed in a similar manner.
Police have not yet established a motive for the killing. Investigations are ongoing.
McCalla’s death brings the number of murders recorded in St Mary since the start of 2026 to 13.
