A St Catherine labourer will have to pay $40,000 or spend 24 days in prison after he was caught driving on the Edward Seaga Highway while his licence was suspended.
Derron Thompson, 24, of a Linstead address, pleaded guilty to driving with a disqualified licence when he appeared before Parish Court Judge Genetta Smikle on Tuesday.
The court heard that on September 19, police observed Thompson driving a motor car along the highway and signalled him to stop.
After complying, Thompson was asked to produce his driver’s licence. Checks revealed that he had been suspended from driving.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Thompson was unrepresented in court and was given a stern warning by the judge.
