KINGSTON, Jamaica — Janice Turner, the 63-year-old mother of Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to five years in a US federal prison for her role in a high-end fraud scheme targeting luxury retailers, international media have reported.
Turner and Kingston were both found guilty on five counts of wire fraud after investigators revealed they posed as wealthy buyers, falsely claiming to have made payments for luxury items including jewelry and cars.
The duo, indicted in July 2024, reportedly used their fame and flashy lifestyle to scam jewelers and vendors out of thousands.
While Turner faced sentencing, Kingston — known for his 2007 chart-topper “Beautiful Girls” — was absent, as he is currently under house arrest. He reportedly submitted a letter to the court requesting leniency for his mother, citing her age and health concerns.
Following her sentence, Turner will face three years of supervised release and could be deported to Jamaica.
Kingston is expected to be sentenced in August.
