Residents Protest Fatal Police Shooting : Residents of the Dam Road area in Green Island, Hanover, are lashing out at the police over the fatal shooting of two brothers at their home on Dam Road on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Enrique Harvey and 26-year-old Romaine Harvey, both of Dam Road.
Reports by the Green Island police indicate that at about 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a police team went to a house occupied by the brothers at Dam Road. While conducting a search of the dwelling, Enrique, who was in the presence of the lawmen, allegedly pulled a handgun and pointed it at them.
The police reported that they were forced to take evasive action and open fire, resulting in Enrique being fatally shot.
It is further reported that two other police officers standing outside the house saw Enrique’s brother, Romaine, running into the yard. He allegedly also pulled a handgun and pointed it at the lawmen.
The officers took evasive action and opened fire, hitting Romaine in the upper body.
Both injured brothers were taken to Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, where they were pronounced dead.
The police stated that they recovered two 9mm semi-automatic pistols and several rounds of ammunition from the two men. They also mentioned that both men, known to be part of the Vendetta gang causing mayhem in the Green Island area, had been implicated in several criminal activities in the community.
Following the shooting, several disgruntled community members took to the streets, accusing the police of killing the brothers in cold blood.
The incident was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM), which has launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
