St. Catherine, Jamaica: A woman has been charged after police say she falsely reported that her Portmore home had been robbed in an attempt to obtain a financial benefit.
Forty-four-year-old office assistant Tanesha Wright has been charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence and forgery with intent to deceive.
The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, August 6, when Wright reportedly told Portmore police that her home had been broken into and several items stolen.
However, investigators later determined that the report was allegedly false and that Wright used the crime reference number issued following the report to obtain a $250,000 relief grant under false pretences.
Police say Wright subsequently gave a caution statement admitting to the scheme.
She was later charged and is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, August 21.
