Police Identify UWI Mona Student Found Dead on Campus — Investigations Ongoing

St. Andrew, Jamaica — Police have identified the female student who was found dead on the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, early Thursday morning as 20-year-old Victoria Brown Hanley, a Marketing student who resided on George Alleyne Hall.

Reports are that Hanley’s body was discovered by her roommate sometime after 6:00 a.m., prompting an immediate call to the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Michael Phipps, commanding officer for the Area Four Police Division, confirmed that investigators are examining CCTV footage from the dormitory as part of the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that Hanley may have taken her own life, but ACP Phipps stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.

The police say investigations are ongoing.
