Curfew Imposed in East Kingston Following Spike in Violence

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A curfew has been imposed in sections of East Kingston amid ongoing efforts by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to restore public order and suppress violent crimes in the area.

According to the JCF, the curfew began at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, and will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8. The boundaries of the curfew cover strategic areas prone to gang-related activities.

The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:

• North: Along an imaginary line from the Mountain Ridge leading to the Mountain View Primary School and onto the Cane River Falls.
• East: From the Cane River Falls to the bridge at 10 Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew.
• South: From the coastline to the bridge at 10 Miles, Bull Bay, and onto Flag Circle.
• West: Along South Camp Road from Flag Circle to Vineyard Road, then along an imaginary line continuing to the Mountain View Primary School.

Residents within the curfew zones are being advised to cooperate with the police and limit movement unless necessary. Only persons with legitimate reasons for being in the area will be allowed passage by the security forces.

The JCF has reiterated that these measures are aimed at restoring calm and protecting the lives of law-abiding citizens in these communities.
