Entertainer and music producer Linval ‘Shab Don’ Thompson Jr. has been cleared of corruption allegations following the conclusion of his trial in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court.
The matter, which began on February 19, ended on Monday when the presiding judge ruled that weaknesses and inconsistencies in the prosecution’s case made a conviction unsafe. Defense attorney Donahue Martin confirmed the outcome to the news centre.
Thompson was arrested in connection with a 2021 incident. Prosecutors alleged that he offered a police officer $2 million to ensure that an illegal firearm reportedly discovered in a vehicle he was driving would disappear. He was subsequently charged under the Corruption Prevention Act, along with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In April 2022, the gun-related charges were dismissed. Monday’s ruling brings the corruption case to a close.
However, Thompson remains in police custody in relation to separate criminal proceedings. He faces three counts of murder stemming from an incident on Marl Road in Rose Heights, St. James, on May 25. Authorities have indicated that he was positively identified during an identification parade.
Attorney Donahue Martin has expressed confidence that the outstanding charges will also be resolved in his client’s favour.
