KINGSTON – A taxi operator has been charged by Kingston Central Police for allegedly injuring an officer during an incident on King Street in downtown Kingston on Wednesday. The accused, 36-year-old Shaun Gray of Windsor Height in Central Village, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, faces charges of assault at common law and assault occasioning bodily harm.
According to police reports, at approximately 1:18 p.m., an officer on traffic duty riding a service motorcycle observed Gray, driving a Honda Stepwagon, commit a traffic breach. The officer approached Gray to address the violation, but Gray reportedly drove his vehicle into the officer’s path, using it to pin the officer between two vehicles.
The officer sustained injuries to his right foot and right thumb as a result of the collision. In an effort to defend himself, the officer fired shots in Gray’s direction, although no injuries were reported from the officer’s response. Gray fled the scene but was later apprehended and subsequently charged.
Shaun Gray is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, March 26.
