Motorists Fined for Toll Evasion: Several motorists were fined in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday after being convicted of evading toll payments along the PJ Patterson Highway.
The matters were heard before Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, with a total of 12 motorists found guilty of toll evasion offences during the day’s proceedings.
The court was told that the prescribed penalty for each offence is a fine of $10,000 or five days’ imprisonment.
In one case, the registered owner of a motor vehicle was informed that the individual driving his vehicle had allegedly failed to pay tolls on six separate occasions. As a result, the owner was fined a total of $60,000 and given until July 7, 2026, to pay the amount.
According to investigators, the motorists drove through toll plazas on the PJ Patterson Highway without making the required payments.
Police said the violations were detected after toll operators reviewed surveillance footage, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the motorists involved.
