A heated exchange between North West Manchester Member of Parliament Mikael Phillips and West Kingston MP Desmond McKenzie prompted other parliamentarians to intervene to prevent the confrontation from escalating.
The incident unfolded in the House of Representatives as Speaker Juliet Holness was leaving the chamber.
Phillips directed strong criticism at the Speaker, prompting McKenzie to intervene in her defence and urge him to remain respectful. The exchange then developed into a verbal confrontation between the two MPs.
Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton and State Minister Zavia Mayne were among government members who intervened, physically restraining Phillips and preventing the MPs from moving closer to each other.
Opposition members, including People’s National Party President Mark Golding, also sought to calm the situation.
The account provided did not specify what triggered Phillips’ criticism of the Speaker or whether parliamentary authorities would take further action.
