NEW YORK, USA — Legendary singer Lionel Richie has been hospitalised as a precaution after appearing to struggle during a concert in St. Louis over the weekend.
A source close to the singer’s tour told ABC News that Richie checked himself into hospital “out of an abundance of caution” following his performance at The Muny’s annual summer finale concert on Saturday night.
Richie, 77, reportedly appeared to have difficulty toward the end of the show and performed his final song, “All Night Long,” while seated, according to reports from concertgoers cited by TMZ.
The hospitalisation comes more than two months after Richie experienced dizziness onstage during the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in Minnesota on June 24.
Videos shared online at the time showed the “Hello” singer performing while seated.
Following that incident, Richie postponed two scheduled performances — one in Columbus, Ohio, and another in Chicago — after doctors advised him to rest and return to full health.
He resumed performing on June 30 in Pittsburgh.
On July 4, Richie addressed fans on Instagram, thanking them for their concern and assuring them that he was doing well.
The singer is scheduled to continue his performances, including his “King of Hearts” shows at Wynn Las Vegas in October and November.
There has been no indication that Richie’s latest hospitalisation is related to a serious medical emergency, and his representatives have not publicly disclosed further details about his condition.
