Kingston, Jamaica — Jamaican blogger and philanthropist Claude “Big Stone” Sinclair has died, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the island’s political and social spheres.
News of Sinclair’s passing was confirmed on Tuesday, with Opposition Leader Mark Golding among those expressing condolences and recognizing his contribution to public discourse and community advocacy.
Sinclair, widely known by his online moniker “Big Stone,” built a significant following through his outspoken commentary on social issues, governance, and justice in Jamaica. Over the years, he also gained recognition for grassroots philanthropic efforts, often assisting vulnerable individuals and highlighting cases of hardship through his platform.
His death follows a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. Sinclair had publicly disclosed that he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and used his experience to encourage Jamaican men to seek early medical screening. In addition to his illness, he had faced other serious health challenges in recent years, including complications from a back injury.
Tributes have continued to pour in on social media, with many Jamaicans describing Sinclair as a fearless voice for the marginalized and a figure who consistently used his influence to bring attention to overlooked issues.
While often controversial, Sinclair remained a prominent figure in Jamaica’s digital media space, blending activism with commentary in a way that resonated with a broad audience.
He is being remembered for his advocacy, candour, and commitment to helping others, even amid his own health struggles.
