Christa Pike, the Tennessee death row inmate who survived a failed lethal injection, has been discharged from hospital and returned to prison, her lawyers said Saturday.
Pike, 50, was given two doses of pentobarbital during an execution attempt on September 30. She survived and was taken to hospital in critical condition before later regaining consciousness.
Her attorneys said she is continuing to receive medical care at the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center, where she has been imprisoned for more than 30 years. They will continue monitoring her recovery.
Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer, a crime she committed when she was 18.
Her legal team has renewed calls for Governor Bill Lee to commute her death sentence to life imprisonment.
Lee has suspended executions in Tennessee pending an independent investigation into the failed procedure.
