CAYMAN ISLANDS (McKoy’s News) — A 37-year-old Jamaican man, identified as George Orlando Senior, has been sentenced to life in prison for the cold-blooded murder of 25-year-old Divonte Hernandez, in a brazen daylight shooting that took place in George Town on September 29, 2023.
Senior, who was found guilty by a jury in April 2025, will have to serve a minimum of 34 years and eight months before becoming eligible for parole.
Reports are that Hernandez was shot at close range in the chest with a handgun as his two-year-old daughter played nearby outside a liquor store. The chilling execution, described by the presiding judge as a “public assassination,” was carried out in broad daylight, lasting no more than two minutes.
Justice Cheryll Richards, in handing down the sentence, highlighted several aggravating factors, including that the murder was premeditated, committed in the presence of the victim’s child, and executed with no regard for witnesses.
Investigators linked the murder to drug-related activities. Senior, a self-confessed drug dealer, reportedly went on the run after the killing and was captured three weeks later. He was said to be living illegally in the Cayman Islands at the time and also has a prior conviction in Canada for a drive-by shooting.
Justice Richards ordered that Senior be deported to Jamaica once he becomes eligible for release.
