Kingston, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) — A Kingston dancer has been slapped with a murder charge and is now behind bars, following a deadly post-rehearsal altercation that left one man dead. The accused, Raul Reid, a 33-year-old father of three from Almond Town, made his first court appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody.
Reid, who is said to be the dance marshall of his group, is accused of fatally stabbing another group member during what police say was a heated dispute after a dance practice. But Reid’s attorney is pushing back hard against the claims.
According to his legal counsel, her client was only trying to part the fight, not take part in it. She told the court that Reid, known in the community for his leadership in the dance scene, is maintaining his innocence.
“Your Honour, he was not the one who stabbed the deceased. He cooperated fully with the police, even turned up at the station without being accompanied by legal representation. That speaks to his character,” she argued, adding that he is the sole breadwinner for his family and has no prior convictions.
But Parish Judge Peter Wilson wasn’t moved.
“Do you want me to treat this as a bail application? You’ll only get one chance. If you use it now, I’m going to deny it. The man is charged with murder,” the judge declared sternly, adding that he was ordering fingerprints for further investigations.
The courtroom was tense as Reid was led away in handcuffs. He is expected to return on October 21, 2025, when his attorney is set to formally apply for bail.
Meanwhile, the dance community remains in shock as they grapple with the tragic fallout of what was supposed to be a routine rehearsal.
