Hanover, Jamaica – Police have taken into custody a woman believed to be the mastermind behind the brutal ambush that claimed the life of a policeman’s wife, while another suspected attacker has been cut down in a bloody confrontation with security forces.
Law enforcement sources say the woman — described as a business associate of the policeman — was nabbed by a police team around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at a guest house in Red Ground, Hanover.
“She will be charged, no doubt about it,” a senior cop told McKoy’s News, noting that investigators are still piecing together the full scope of the murder plot.
Hours later, gunfire erupted in Salt Spring, St James, where police engaged a man linked to the deadly attack. The suspect, believed to be tied to the notorious KDF gang out of Mount Salem, was fatally shot on Long Store Road. Cops say an illegal pistol was seized at the scene.
This latest development follows a bloody chain of events triggered last Saturday night, when 36-year-old human resource practitioner, Latoya Stephenson, her policeman husband, and their five-year-old son were ambushed by gunmen along the Reading main road in St James. Stephenson died from her injuries, her husband was hospitalized, and the child remains in critical condition in ICU.
Since the murder, police have intensified their crackdown on the suspects. On Monday, alleged KDF gang leader Andre Reid, otherwise called “Like Zulu”, was killed in an armed confrontation. Hours earlier, Lindel Gray, otherwise called “Frass”, was gunned down in a shootout with police in the Anchovy area. Both scenes yielded illegal firearms.
Investigators believe the attacks are gang-related and have vowed to hunt down every last person involved in the deadly plot.
