St Catherine, Jamaica – A man was fatally shot during a reported confrontation with police in Portmore on Wednesday evening. His identity has not yet been released.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred about 6:40 p.m. while officers were carrying out an operation along Port Henderson Road, near the Marine Park area.
Police allege that the man confronted the team during the operation. Officers reportedly responded by taking defensive action, during which the man was shot and injured.
He was transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting, as is standard procedure in cases involving the security forces. Investigations remain ongoing.
