Two Jamaican men were among several people arrested by agents from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a weekend enforcement operation targeting individuals with serious criminal convictions.
One of the men, Carl Winston Ellis, was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to ICE, he was previously convicted of possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs and illegal re-entry into the United States.
The second Jamaican, Bruce Blackstock, was arrested in Detroit, Michigan. ICE said Blackstock legally entered the United States but was later convicted of multiple violent offences, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Authorities did not release additional details about either case.
US officials described the two Jamaicans as being among the “worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens” arrested during the operation.
Also taken into custody were nationals of Ukraine, Sudan, Guatemala, Mexico and Cuba. According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), those arrested were linked to offences including murder, sexual abuse of a minor and drug trafficking.
DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the operation removed “multiple murderers, pedophiles, sexual deviants, drug traffickers, and other dangerous criminal illegal aliens” from communities across the country.
Bis added that, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, ICE’s enforcement efforts are aimed at improving public safety by removing criminal non-citizens from the United States.
