Nineteen households in Coopers Pen, Trelawny, have been relocated at a cost of approximately $10 million as the Government works to assist roughly 100 households ahead of a November 30 deadline set by the property owners.
The Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development says land near the community has been identified for permanent resettlement, with infrastructure works estimated at $500 million being planned.
Affected residents will be eligible for relocation grants based on their circumstances. Temporary accommodation may also be provided for vulnerable households.
The Government has stressed, however, that while the proposed residential lots will be heavily subsidised, residents will be required to pay for them.
