Police have confirmed the fatal shooting of a man they described as a major high-risk target during a security operation in Westmoreland on New Year’s Day.
The deceased has been identified as Delano Leslie, otherwise called “Crazy.” Lawmen reported that Leslie and two of his associates were shot during an intelligence-led operation conducted by members of the Area 1 Fugitive Apprehension Team. The operation took place in the Cornwall Mountain community, within the Bethel Town Police District.
During the exercise, officers reportedly recovered two pistols.
Investigators said Leslie was being actively pursued in connection with several serious crimes. These included the May 2024 murder of Dwayne Ottey, also known as “Sparrow,” in Mackfield, Westmoreland, as well as the December 2023 killing of Joshua Richards in Johnson Town, Hanover.
Police further indicated that Leslie was a suspect in two separate incidents involving gunfire directed at the police in the Cornwall Mountain area. Those incidents were reported to have occurred in March 2025 and September 2025.
The police have not released the identities of the other two men who were fatally wounded, and investigations into the operation are ongoing.
