An early morning fire destroyed the Jobs Bedding mattress factory in Montego Bay, uuSt. James, on Monday, leaving the manufacturing facility in ruins.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade said firefighters responded to the blaze shortly before 2:00 a.m., dispatching four units from the Montego Bay Fire Station.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the factory engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the manufacturing section, preventing it from spreading to the warehouse, which was successfully saved.
Despite their efforts, everything inside the factory was destroyed.
A unit from the Falmouth Fire Station later joined the operation to assist in extinguishing the fire.
During the response, one of the Montego Bay Fire Station units was involved in a crash while returning from replenishing its water supply at a nearby hydrant. The condition of the occupants and the extent of damage to the fire truck have not been disclosed.
The factory is located near a service station, but there were no reports of damage to the neighbouring business or any disruption caused by the fire.
Fire investigators remain at the scene as they work to determine the cause of the blaze.
