KINGSTON, Jamaica — St George’s College footballer Dominic Thompson is proving that success on the field can go hand in hand with academic excellence.
The defender earned seven Grade Ones and one Grade Two in this year’s CSEC examinations, taking his overall tally to nine Grade Ones from 10 subjects. He previously earned distinctions in EDPM and Mathematics.
Thompson, who captained St George’s Under-16 team last year, is now part of the school’s Manning Cup squad. He has also captained Harbour View FC’s Under-15 and Under-17 teams.
Rather than following a strict study schedule, Thompson said he prioritises tasks based on the demands of school and football while holding himself accountable to high standards.
His coach, Andrew Price, praised him as a hardworking student-athlete and strong leader, saying he expects Thompson to play a key role in the St George’s defence this season.
Thompson hopes to earn a sports engineering scholarship while pursuing his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
He credits his father, Roger Thompson, for being a major influence on both his academic and sporting development, describing him as his biggest motivator and critic.
With the Manning Cup season approaching, Thompson believes St George’s has the talent and foundation to challenge for titles.
