Police are investigating an incident in which a constable came under gunfire while attending to his vehicle in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Friday night.
Reports indicate that the 34-year-old policeman had stopped along the Old Harbour Road near the roundabout after experiencing a flat tyre. The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. while he was working on the vehicle.
According to information received, two men travelling on a motorcycle approached the officer. One of the men reportedly asked if he needed assistance before recognising him as a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Investigators say the pillion rider then dismounted, pulled a firearm and fired in the direction of the constable. The officer was able to evade the attack and was not injured.
The assailants fled the area shortly after the shooting. The shaken officer later reported the matter to the authorities.
