Five Arrested in St Mary Special Operation Targeting Criminal Activity

St Mary, Jamaica – A special operation conducted on Thursday in the Oracabessa communities of Marson Town and Bailey’s Vale resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of ammunition, authorities reported.

Acting Superintendent Anthony Wallace, head of the St Mary Police Division, disclosed that four individuals were arrested for unauthorized possession of ammunition and related offences following the discovery of five 12-gauge cartridges. A fifth person was taken into custody for operating without a spirit license, disorderly conduct, obstructing police officers, resisting arrest, and additional violations.

“The operation focused on disrupting gang activity, recovering illegal firearms and ammunition, and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities,” Wallace explained. “These arrests target persons engaged in robberies, firearm trafficking, and other serious offences.”

The operation, spearheaded by a joint task force comprising the Fugitive Apprehension Team, Narcotics Division, Specialized Operations, the Canine Division, and the Jamaica Defence Force, reflects the continued push to dismantle criminal networks in St Mary.

During the operation, a variety of alcoholic beverages was confiscated from an unauthorized establishment, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis confirmed. Additionally, in a pre-dawn search in Oracabessa that same day, law enforcement discovered five .22 rounds of ammunition hidden beneath a drum cover used for storing pesticides and water. While no arrests were made in connection with this discovery, a thorough search of the premises yielded no further contraband.

Francis emphasized the division’s unwavering commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety. “The St Mary Police Division continues to target criminal elements and dismantle activities threatening community safety. This operation reflects the commitment of law enforcement to creating a safer environment for all residents,” he said.

Investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
