St. Catherine, Jamaica — The St. Catherine North Police are investigating the shooting of a mentally ill man by a security guard at the Spanish Town Hospital on Monday night.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when the two men were at the health facility. The mentally ill man, aged 54, allegedly attacked the security guard, prompting the guard to take evasive action.
During the encounter, the guard discharged his firearm, injuring the man.
The injured man was treated at the hospital and remains under medical care. His condition has not been disclosed.
Authorities have not yet provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine whether the guard’s actions were justified under the circumstances.
