Family Seeks Answers After Woman Fatally Shot in Clarendon Hotel Room

PARADISE, Westmoreland — The family and friends of 20-year-old Jimoy Suckoo, who was fatally shot in a Clarendon hotel room, are demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Skeptical of claims that her boyfriend’s gun accidentally discharged, they are seeking clarity on the events that unfolded at Hotel Versalles.

According to police reports, Suckoo was with her 28-year-old boyfriend, a police constable, when she received a single gunshot wound to the chest from his service weapon, a Glock pistol. The constable initially stated that he placed the gun on the bed where Suckoo was lying, turned his back, and then heard a loud explosion. However, he later claimed at the May Pen Police Station that the firearm accidentally discharged when it slipped from his hand as he was removing it from his leg holster.

Suckoo was taken to May Pen Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her family has raised questions about inconsistencies in the reports. Suckoo’s mother noted discrepancies in where the gunshot wound was described to be and where it was observed during the identification of her daughter’s body.

The family is also concerned about Suckoo’s missing phone. She reportedly had two iPhones, but only one has been recovered by the police, while the other remains active on social media.

Neighbors have alleged that there was a tense exchange between Suckoo and her boyfriend the day before her death, fueling further doubts about the circumstances of the incident.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) has launched an inquiry, citing conflicting accounts of what transpired. Investigators have recovered the officer’s firearm, processed the scene, and swabbed both the officer and Suckoo’s hands for gunshot residue. The constable has also been served with a Section 21 Notice under the Independent Commission of Investigations Act, requiring him to submit a statement and attend a scheduled interview.

Suckoo, a bartender from Paradise, Westmoreland, had dreams of building her own home. Her death has left her community in shock and mourning as her family continues to seek answers and justice.
