The over ninety golfers from eight Caribbean islands intensified their battles during the Saturday’s second round of the Caribbean Golf Association Four-Ball Golf Championship at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Montego Bay, St. James.

The main target is on Jamaica who has won the country trophy since the inception of the championship which is now in its sixth year. Last year Jamaica also won four of the six category trophies and is gunning for a repeat this year but will have to have a perfect third and final round on Sunday to solidify that position. Jamaica currently leads in one category while it shares the lead in another and is in challenging positions in the other categories.

Bermuda and Trinidad & Tobago were leading in two categories each of the other four competing categories.
A closer look at the leaderboard showed fierce competition in the Men 70 and over with Bermuda leading Jamaica and Bahamas (who were tied for second) by just two shots after posting a two-day total of two under par 142 to their even par 144.

The difference between category leader Jamaica and its nearest rival in the Senior Men section was just three shots. Jamaica posted a combined total of eight under par 136 to Barbados’ 139. Bermuda was six strokes behind in third place on 145.
Trinidad & Tobago commanded sole leadership of the Super Senior Men by five shots over Jamaica with scores of nine under par 135 to Jamaica’s four under par 140.
The Ladies 45 an over showed a six stroke lead by Bermuda after posing even par 144 over the two rounds to Jamaica’s 150.
Trinidad & Tobago increased their second round lead to 10 shots with two outstanding rounds of five under par 67 and three under par 69 for a combined score of eight under par 136 for the Mid Amateur category. The Cayman Islands occupied second place on 146. Jamaica was two strokes back on 148 in third place.
Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago were in a two way tie for first place in the Ladies 25 and over. They were both eight over par 152 for their two-round total. Jamaica was the sole leader at the end of round one.
The country champion will be determined after Sunday’s third and final round when the points from each category are tabulated and the country with the most points will take home the Ambrose Gouthro Cup. Trinidad & Tobago with 63 points has a knife edge lead over defending campion Jamaica who was on 60 points. Jamaica has won that trophy since the inception of the championship.
