BERMUDA — The Reggae Boyz made a powerful start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, delivering a 4-0 demolition of Bermuda on Friday night at the National Stadium in Devonshire.
Head Coach Steve McClaren says while the Boyz were heavy favourites, he was left impressed by the team’s dominant performance, even though the scoreline “could have been bigger.”
The Jamaicans, missing several stars including Leon Bailey, Captain Andre Blake, Demarai Gray, and Ethan Pinnock, showed no signs of weakness. Goals from Damion Lowe, Renaldo Cephas, Kasey Palmer, and Shamar Nicholson sealed the statement win.
“We took our opportunities and created about 19 chances. We could have scored more, but overall, it was a very professional performance — job done,” McClaren said after the match.
Boyz In Full Flight
The opener came inside the first five minutes after debutant Bailey Cadamarteri forced a save from Bermuda’s Dale Eve. The resulting corner ended in a scramble with stand-in captain Lowe stabbing home.
Minutes later, Cephas dazzled with a solo run past several defenders before finishing coolly to double the lead.
In the second half, Kasey Palmer unleashed a rocket from 20 yards out to make it 3-0, before Nicholson marked his return with a header in the 90th minute.
Nicholson’s strike was historic — his 20th international goal, making him just the sixth player in Jamaica’s history to hit that mark. He now sits just behind Paul Young (22) and Andy Williams (22) on the all-time scorers’ list.
Group B Standing
With the win, Jamaica sits top of Group B, as Trinidad and Tobago were held to a 0-0 draw with Curaçao in Port of Spain. The Boyz are set to return home today, preparing to face Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Kingston.
