A 45-year-old St Catherine minister of religion accused of sexually assaulting a woman after allegedly offering her employment has been granted bail in the sum of $700,000 with a surety.
The accused appeared before the court on Tuesday on charges of grievous sexual assault, forcible detention with intent to commit sexual intercourse, and forcible abduction.
As part of his bail conditions, the judge ordered him to report to the police three times each week.
The case is scheduled to return to court on December 4.
According to the allegations, the minister met the complainant in the Corporate Area and offered to help her secure employment.
It is alleged that on August 7 and again on August 16, he lured the woman to his home in Portmore, St Catherine.
Investigators allege that on both occasions, the man took away the woman’s cellular phone, detained her inside the house and sexually assaulted her.
The woman subsequently reported the matter to the police’s Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
Following an investigation, the minister was arrested and later formally charged after participating in a question-and-answer session with investigators.
