ST ANN’S BAY, St Ann — A woman suspected in the stabbing death of 26-year-old waitress Javia Brown has turned herself in to the police.
The woman, who is known by the alias “Apple”, was arrested on reasonable suspicion of murder after surrendering to the Discovery Bay Police Station on Friday afternoon, accompanied by her lawyer.
Brown, of Windsor Heights, St Ann’s Bay, was fatally stabbed during a dispute with another woman at Windsor Settlement in St Ann’s Bay on Monday, September 7.
According to the police, the incident occurred about 4:00 p.m. Brown was reportedly stabbed in the neck and was subsequently taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where she was treated and admitted in critical condition.
She later succumbed to her injuries that same evening.
Police have not publicly disclosed the circumstances surrounding the dispute or identified the motive for the killing.
However, sources say Brown and the woman suspected in her killing were cousins who lived near each other and had reportedly been involved in an ongoing dispute over a man who had recently come to stay in the community with one of them.
The sources said tensions between the two women had escalated, with several heated exchanges reportedly taking place over their relationship with the man.
It is also alleged that, during the dispute, one of the women damaged a pipe belonging to the other.
Following the stabbing, the suspect reportedly left the community with her bag. Some residents claimed they later saw her leaving in a taxi.
The investigation remains ongoing.
