NASSAU, Bahamas — Kierra Williams and Purbo Camden emerged as Jamaica’s top performers at the 69th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship (CAGC), held at the Royal Blue Golf Course in Nassau, Bahamas.
Williams delivered Jamaica’s strongest individual performance, finishing tied for second after improving steadily throughout the three-round championship. She was sixth after the opening round before moving into joint first after the second round.
She carded rounds of six-over-par 78, one-over-par 73 and two-over-par 74 for a combined nine-over-par 225, marking her best-ever performance at the CAGC.
Her teammates Mattea Issa and Kingston Burke finished 11th and 13th, respectively, with combined scores of 248 and 250. Both players saved their best performances for the final round, with Issa shooting four-over-par 76 and Burke carding six-over-par 78.
Jamaica’s female team finished third behind defending champions Puerto Rico and hosts Bahamas. Puerto Rico retained the George Teale Trophy, while Jamaica improved on its fourth-place finish from last year.
On the men’s side, Camden led Jamaica with a three-round total of 233 to finish 28th. He carded rounds of 78, 79 and 76, improving two places from his joint-30th position after the opening round.
Former national champion Oshae Haye finished joint 34th alongside Trey Williams after both players posted totals of 234. Haye recorded rounds of 78, 79 and 77, while Williams posted 80, 75 and 79.
Zandre Roye, the current national champion and winner of the national trials, recovered from a difficult opening round to finish tied for 37th with a total of 236. He improved significantly in the final two rounds, shooting 76 and 73. His one-over-par 73 was the best individual round recorded by a Jamaican male player during the championship.
Multiple-time national representative Owen Samuda finished 44th after rounds of 85, 84 and 81 for a total of 250.
Jamaica’s other male representative, Dr Mark Newnham, finished 47th with a combined score of 254 from rounds of 87, 84 and 83. His final position was five places better than where he stood after the opening round.
The Jamaican men’s team finished eighth in the 10-team competition. Defending champions Puerto Rico retained the Hoerman Cup, with Trinidad & Tobago finishing second and Bermuda third.
Puerto Rico also retained the Arthur Ziadie Trophy for the overall country championship with 58 points. Bermuda finished second with 47 points, followed by the Dominican Republic on 41. Jamaica placed sixth with 33 points
